From what we get we can make a living,
what we give, however, makes a life
– Arthur Ashe
We encounter different people along our life’s path, and frankly it is no mistake that the person or people you meet along the way are indeed those you are supposed to meet at that very moment.
How do you make each encounter memorable? Do you look at each meeting, each path crossing as an opportunity to make a difference in the other person’s life?
I am a big believer in two adages: (1) “You’ve got to give, give, give – before you get, get, get and the more you give, the more you get” – Joe Charbonneau, and (2) “A rising tide lifts ALL ships”. – Unknown. You too should be a believer in giving back – always sharing the skills and information you’ve gleaned along the way, doing so helps everyone you touch. Many become stingy with their ideas and creativity and that is a shame. I for one believe in throwing as much out there as possible and when I do, it comes back to me ten-fold…and more.
This holds true as well when working with clients, family and peers – now it’s understood that there are some things – proprietary methodologies etc., that are off limits for disclosure – but the fact still remains that the more you share – when you are part of the process of continuing the flow of information – what you get in return is priceless.
You are encouraged today to look for ways to help someone in your organization, teach them “How” something is done, be patient, and persistent – you will be perceived as someone who is a leader, approachable and a trusted advisor – what better gift could you ask for. And perhaps, just perhaps, you’ll make a huge difference in someone’s life!
Get more by giving away much…surprising how that works!
Until next week, continued success…
